Home - Journeys - Thailand 2023, November, December - Saturday, December 9, 2023

Tom slept well in the City Park Hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima, but Pia didn't. She developed diarrhea during the night and therefore slept very poorly.
We do have breakfast together and it turns out to be well taken care of, even the coffee is above expectations. There is a choice of Thai and Western dishes.

Today we travel to Udon Thani, a more than 300 km drive.
Pia asks for, and receives, an anti-diarrhea drug at the hotel reception. We refuel before we drive away around 11 o'clock and stop again along the way to drink coffee. It is a boring road, always straight ahead except at Khon Kaen where we drive on the ring road. Fortunately, Pia starts to feel better during the ride.
In Udon Thani we can easily find our hotel, the BanBua Grand Udon which is located in a narrow street thanks to the navigation on the phone. The hotel is a surprise for us, very friendly and very comfortable. We will stay here for two nights.

Once we have unpacked, we take look at the area. There are many bars in the street where the hotel is located and it reminds us of Pattaya. We go for a drink at Brick House Inn, a large bar and restaurant where they sell various types of beer, including draft. Tom orders a Guinness, Pia a glass of white wine. The people working in the service are young and friendly.
If we want to have dinner we look at an Italian restaurant across the street, Da Sofia, but we don't like that option. We decide to eat at the hotel, and that causes a bit of panic, later we understand that the restaurant is not open in the evening. We order yam wun sen and a pasta dish.
After dinner we go back to Brick House Inn where we sit inside. We are shocked by the toilet, unlike almost all toilets in Thailand, the doors open outwards so you don't have to climb into the bowl first to get in or out of the toilet. We hear the Brick House Inn has a Dutch owner. The place is busy and seems well organized.
